In our professional coaching practice, we sometimes encounter clients who seem to resist, avoid, or block. However, these behaviors are often a reflection of deep-seated needs, protective strategies, or ways of being linked to neurodivergence.

This workshop invites coaches to broaden their perspective on what is commonly referred to as "resistance" and to revisit it in light of the real (and sometimes invisible) needs that lie beneath it. By combining the fundamentals of neuro-inclusion, the contributions of somatic coaching (BodyMind approach), and the key competencies of the ICF, we will see how an attitude of openness, curiosity, and co-creation can transform the coaching relationship.

Through theoretical input, concrete examples, and reflection periods, participants will be encouraged to:
  • Recognize the impacts of neurodivergent functioning on behaviors observed in coaching.
  • differentiate between blockages and unexpressed needs;
  • adjust their stance to promote a more inclusive and respectful alliance;
  • strengthen their presence and listening skills beyond words.
This workshop is for anyone who wants to refine their practice to better support human diversity with sensitivity, ethics, and competence.

Targeted ICF key competencies:

2. Embody a coaching mindset
  • Demonstrate openness, flexibility, and ongoing curiosity in the face of human complexity.
  • Recognize that clients are responsible for their own choices, even when they take unusual forms.

4. Develops a relationship of trust and security
  • Create a safe space for clients living with neurodivergent conditions.
  • Respect and welcome different ways of thinking, acting, and feeling.

5. Maintains a presence
  • Be fully present, here and now, welcoming physical, verbal, and nonverbal signals.
  • Recognize and regulate your own reactions to client resistance.

6. Listen actively
  • Perceive the implicit needs of the client beyond words.
  • Recognize the influences of neurotype, stress, or life experiences on the client's expression.

7. Raises awareness
  • Ask questions tactfully to enable clients to explore their needs, limitations, and ways of protecting themselves.
