Coaching tool medley
At this month’s event, three coaches from various coaching disciplines have been invited to make a short 10 minute presentation on tools that they have found useful in their coaching practice. Each participant will have 10 minutes to present their tool, and 5 minutes to respond to questions from participants. As the presenting times will be closely monitored to ensure that everyone has sufficient time to present, presenter will be encouraged to provide their contact information to participants so that those wishing to have more information about their tool can contact them directly.
Learning Objectives
Participants will learn about 4 simple, inexpensive tools that they can access to help with their clients.
Ed Rudick will present on the Enneagram.
Although the ENNEGRAM is actually an ancient model referring to 9 different personality types, The Enneagram Test was best know as the Riso-Hudson Type Indicator, named after the late Don Riso and Russ Hudson of the Enneagram Institue (1997) and was developed on a scientific basis. It is sometimes compared to the MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) however there is academic controversy over the true scientific validity of the Enneagram compared to other, often more extensive diagnostic tests.
It is an excellent tool for coaches to help their clients understand various aspects of their personalities and can readily be the basis for exploration into their behaviours and potential for personal growth. In fact, it can often be a complement to other personality assessments. Although there are a growing number of certifications and trainings offered about the Ennegram, with a little bit of effort it can be extremely easy to familiarize yourselves with the basics and offer an inexpensive and in some cases free assessment for particular clients.
Carol Bruno will present a question burst that can be used when a client is stuck and the delegation box that can be used when a client feels overwhelmed by all that needs to be done
David Carey will present The Blob Tree. A tool he was introduced to in a recent meeting of the CA and has since used several times in team coaching situations. The blob tree tool created by behavioural psychologist Pip Wilson is a simple but effective way to get clients talking about feelings and helps in developing understanding of emotions, empathy and self-awareness. It is useful in helping clients identify where they see themselves in the team dynamic and can provide real insight into the teams functionality overall.
