Energy matterspar Ken Ingram

If energy matters  than the question we may want to consider as Coaches is how can we develop  conservation strategies for both ourselves and our clients in order to ensure  we have a constant source of renewable energy?

First, we need to  clarify what Energy is about. The Webster dictionary defines it as the Force,  vigor power and the ability to perform work. Your energy gives you the force  needed to follow through and put things into practice.

So how is that we  often find some people who seem to have an abundance of energy and at the same  time others that are struggling to keep up? Is it because we set ourselves up  to fail by not choosing to prepare ourselves for success?

I feel it is more  related to planning, prioritizing and the manner we set goals. As human beings,  most of us do not have the habit of making this a priority so the tendency is  to use a lot of our energy in our personal and professional life that gives us   little benefit.

Therefore by changing  habits  and focusing our energy on the  right tasks and things that we need to do, the tendency will be to get more  things accomplished with less time and energy. So the question becomes HOW? And  where can you start to find renewed energy and time.

As a coach we need to  develop self-discipline and habits.  Studies have shown that setting and  accomplishing goals motivates us to face new challenges and grow further, but  it takes discipline to do the small things needed to achieve what we want  especially in sales and business development. This critical area is typically  the least developed and an area where we spend a lot of energy.

Often even coaches  fail to set themselves up to win. They are great at coaching but fail to invest  in the development of one of the most basic skills needed as a business  owner.  You are unlikely to do this  unless there is a perceived benefit so you first need to consider the value of  your time. If you do not know what your efforts are worth, it might be  difficult to make a decision on where you should spend your energy.

Look at an average  day to see where you are spending time and energy. You will probably find a  pattern in how your day is divided up. This exercise will enable you to look  for opportunities that enable you to conserve energy.

At the end of the  day, all your talents and skills are useless if you do not have the energy to  use them. Remember every 24 hours we receive 86,400 seconds and at the end of  each day, what we have not used disappears never to return.

Do you have the audacity to be the master of your success?
